Button accessibility - JAWS only reads "+" on button

$

Hi!

I'm creating a screen-reader accessible form, and was dismayed to realize that--for buttons--JAWS doesn't read anything but the button caption.

This is particularly devastating with the add/delete row buttons. I have set both the Tool Tip and Custom Screen Reader Text, and even defined the precedence, but JAWS still only reads caption, "+".  It needs to read "Add a new row below this one", etc.  As things stand, these buttons will be completely useless for my visually-impaired users.  Note: if you delete the button's caption and leave it visually-blank, then JAWS can read the tool tip/custom reader text.  But that's not helpful at all.

It looks like this was an issue as far back as 2010, which is mind-boggling to me. Does anyone know a workaround for this issue?

Note: I'd rather not do the "invisible button over the image" method, since that will make things more complicated with the buttons already being in a table.  I'm not sure I'll even be able to pull that one off.  Is there a way to force it with JavaScript, maybe?

Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks!

Hello all

       I have used Jetform soft before, and in Jetform we could merge .txt file (output from SAP) and .mdf file (compiled by Jetform Designed)   output by phisical printers, but the former version has a problem ----- it couldn't merge the both files into the pdf format output.

      Now I get, adobe livecycle could solve the problem , and I get a ES4 version from our software vendor,  but I don't know how to merge .txt file and designed file by Adobe livecycle designer . Anyone who can teach me ?

LiveCycle Designer removed during update of Acrobat Pro DC

In August 2016 I purchased yet another (I have been upgrading since 2007) Acrobat Pro DC license specifically for the purpose of using LiveCycle Designer.  During a subsequent update, my installed LiveDesigner was surreptitiously removed with no prior notice (even though I had paid for that specific functionality).  I didn't find out until I tried to update some critical forms at the last minute.  Searching through these forums earlier this year I found a discussion where an Adobe rep conceded it was a mistake and said they had a program for registered owners of the "Classic" desktop versions could call in and receive a download link to restore the LiveCycle Designer.  Well, I tried that several times and got nowhere.  After several calls, I was finally referred to the "Conflict Resolution" center (???)  and I spent nearly 45 minutes on the phone with a patient person who finally agreed to send me the link to the program.  However, when he discovered I am a personal end-user with a single license and not a 'company account' he said he was unable to fulfill the request!  He told me to call the regular support line again.  After I called the 'regular' support line back, the rep was adamant there was no such provision to restore LiveCycle Designer, that he could not find that discussion in these forums, and he rudely terminated the call.  That was a while ago.  Anytime I call back I keep getting told to buy a different product.  Now I have to update some forms and need the functionality.

Can anyone at Adobe please provide a resolution - other than having to buy yet another version?  (I am currently at v2015.006.30394.)  Even if LiveCycle is no longer being updated, I was using the existing version happily with no problems.  This whole episode has left me extremely hesitant to buy anything 'Adobe' when it may reach in and disable a purchased product with no notice whatsoever.  Thank you.

Checkbox with named binding is reset after save

I just came across an issue with checkboxes in interactive dynamic forms:

Some checkboxes had a binding by name (i. e. no provision for any binding in the XML).

[Actually by mistake as I have no data connection for this form anyways. But those needless bindings should not hurt.]

Many checkboxes had the same name. (Table rows with true/false-checkboxes.)

In the post-save event those checkboxes still had their values.

But after saving the PDF and reopening it, those checkboxes had lost their values. They were reset.

All other field types kept their values (textfields, drop-down-lists etc.)

I was able to solve the problem by removing the bindings.

But in mixed scenarios with prefilled forms to be filled out I could not do without bindings. [I would not use named bindings though, but some might.]

I failed to reproduce this issue in a stripped down form. The problem shows up in the big form consistently. But I am not able to provoke the problem in a very simple form.

adobeerror.PNG

Hi everyone,

I've been prompt with this message from one of my PDF forms for the first time. The PDF was distributed for the first time to the industry and once it came back to me the PDF wasn't behaving the way it was suppose to. The PDF is very complex and huge. It contains various information collected from a database and imported as an XML file. Once imported, the information is transferred in fields in a way that it can manipulated without any connection to the database. Then the form is reader enabled and ready to be used. I've done this with many different forms and never have I encountered such an error.

What I know about the error :

1. Originally, when the form is opened it creates JSON objects in background considered as Oriented Objects to access all data. When I received this form, all the information was gone and instead of having texts in drop down list as it supposed to be, it displays the raw value which is either the ID of the item or the value the field is suppose to contain.

2. Opening the form with Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro (DC) behaves differently. In Reader, nothing works : buttons, drop downs, any JavaScript is disabled and all subforms and objects that are originally hidden are now visible. With Pro, the forms looks fine but all drop down lists with IDs displays the ID instead of the text(same in Reader). Also the file's size has significantly reduced from more than 1Mb to 700Kb ish. (See #3)

3. The form is still Reader Enabled (even if the message says extended features is no longer available), but is not working on Reader. The form itself lost all the data imported within the PDF but kept all data inserted in fields. It looks like the form got reinitialized back to default as if I saved it from LiveCycle Designer, then inserted some values in fields and Reader Enabled the PDF, even though most of the form is not working properly.

4. A section of the form was set to be read only, and all buttons were hidden within that section. When received the entire form was accessible and some parts that was not suppose to be visible were visible. i.e.: There's an import button on top of the form and this button is hidden as soon as I import data from XML file and there's no way for this button to come back visible. Technically, I am the only one that is suppose to see this button once I distribute the form.

5. If I use Reader and Save a Copy... Adobe removes additional features and the size of the file is now back to its default size but a bit bigger considering the information inserted in fields.

I would like to know exactly, what could possibly do this. By looking at the form and testing things, I feel like it's a specific version of Adobe Reader Either 9, 10, 11 or DC that would save the form but removes some data that are hidden in background. Is there any option within the application itself that can get Adobe Reader to save a form and remove information? Is it possible that a PDF Reader Enabled with Adobe Acrobat DC Pro, then opened and filled with a previous version of Adobe Reader and then saved could apply some unwanted changes to the form? When I do step by step the form to myself using my version of the software this never happens and everything work fine.

Anyone can help me on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.: Also I am waiting for more information coming from the user to try and understand what went wrong. For now this is all I have.

Thanks.

Version Check

Hi everyone,

Our LCD form does an Adobe Acrobat Reader version check before it opens, using the following JS:

if (parseFloat(app.viewerVersion) < 12)

  {

  xfa.host.messageBox("If you are seeing this message, your version of Adobe Acrobat Reader may be outdated.\n\nFor best user experience, please download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC at https://get.adobe.com/reader.", "Adobe Acrobat is outdated", 0, 0);

  }

However, many of our users are going to get annoyed by how often they see this prompt, if they can't or won't update their Reader to the latest version. Is there a way to add a check box to the message box that allows the user to suppress future notices of this kind? Such as "[ ] Do not tell me to update anymore"?

I feel like this might not be possible, since it seems like it would be a program-level change (rather than something that could be remembered for the form, itself), but I figured I'd try asking about it, just in case.

Thanks for taking the time to read my question!

form created in LiveCycle won't work in Reader DC

I have a form created in LiveCycle Designer that people open up in Adobe Reader to fill out. When completed it has a button in it that people can click that should open up an email and attach the form to a specific address. The form use to work but since I went in and changed the address in LiveCycle that the form should go to, when people open it up in Reader DC, the email button no longer works. Can someone please tell me why this happened and how to fix the issue?

Issues with fonts/populating form in Livecycle Design

Hello,

I recently purchased Livecycle Design after my copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC informed me that in order to edit some populated PDFs I had (specifically the font), I had to purchase Livecycle. I did this, and I've come across a few issues.

1) I am missing the fonts on this computer that the form used (it's an IRS 1095-C form.) Here are screenshots of the missing fonts: https://i.imgur.com/RvWKkEw.png and https://i.imgur.com/CKFq6gn.png Will purchasing the fonts listed here resolve the missing font issue? I'm pretty certain this is the case, but I wanted to be sure.

2) In the interim, I replaced the missing fonts with Arial in order to view the form: https://i.imgur.com/9dTN08x.png However, when I go to the PDF Preview tab, I get a form that I believe is populated with the Wingding font: https://i.imgur.com/FRWpiMj.png I am unsure why this is happening, as the form has been replaced with Arial, so I am worried that if I even purchase the missing fonts listed above, it will still show up in Wingding/gibberish.

3) Finally, in the PDF Preview, the document's fields are blank. In the original PDF, the fields are filled out. My goal is to edit the font size of the City, State, and Zip fields of the form, as they were too large in the original document (but the font was uneditable in Acrobat Pro DC.) How can I change the font in Livecycle and ensure the changes are reflected in the original PDF's populated fields?

Thanks ahead for any help - I was told by Adobe Support to use these forums, as there is no Phone or Chat support for Livecycle.

LiveCycle Designer ES4 crashes on Preview PDF

I am running LiveCycle Designer ES4 sp1, with Acrobat DC and Windows 10. I can preview a pdf in LCD but it will eventually just crash. This is regardless of whether it is a file I've worked on or a brand new file. I believe I can reproduce it by switching to Preview PDF (first time it works fine), go back to design mode then back to preview PDF and it crashes. If I switch to Reader, I can work with files without a crash.

The message is:

Adobe LiveCycle Designer has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I tried removing the AppData but that did not solve the problem.

UPDATE:

I have uninstalled Acrobat DC 3 times, cleared the AppData, removed fonts, however the problem still exists.

Invoice Number Increment Shared Drive

I have a form fillable PDF that is located on our website. It has two buttons, a PRINT and CLEAR. I also have a text field called InvoiceNumber. What I want is every time a user clicks the button PRINT, the InvoiceNumber text field increments and stays that number.

I made it the text field to increment using the following script:

var f = this.getField("InvoiceNumber");

f.value = Number(f.value)+1;

f.defaultValue = f.value;

BUT, when someone or the same one opens it up or refreshes the page, it goes back to a blank text field, then when that person clicks print it increments again.

I am wondering if there is a way to have a text field increment after a person prints the form, close it and when it opens again the number is the next number. Is this possible?

Button for emailing

I have a fillable form and created a button that users can click on to send to a name that is entered in a text field named Manager.  In the script editor I have the following:

Subject.#subform[0].EmailManager::click - (JavaScript, client)

//Create a variable to hold the document object

var oDoc = event.target;

oDoc.mailDoc({

bUI: true,

cTo: Manager.formattedvalue,

cSubject: Location.formattedvalue + Department.formattedvalue + Subj.rawValue

});

(FYI..Location and department are dropdown boxes and subj. is a text box that already has preset value to it)

When I go to test the form, it doesn't email the name that's in the text field.  Does the cTo: have to be a raw.value?

What am I missing??????

Radio button group not working when subform is set to inactive.

All,

We are experimenting with 'inactive' subforms (versus a "hidden" subform).  This is extremely helpful when working with conditionally required fields - since "inactive" makes the fields inside the subform not required.

  • presence = "inactive";  subform is hidden and required fields are not 'required'
  • presence = "visible";  subform is visible and required fields are required.

Unfortunately - I haven't been able to get the radio button group(s) to work as easy as the text fields.

  1. All fields inside subform are set to "User Entered - Required", including text fields and radio button groups.
  2. We include a message in each field's "Empty Message" property
  3. We also have each field set to include a "Validation Script Message".

For the radio button group, these settings (above) are set at the group level - not the button level.

Anyone know how I can get the radio button groups to benefit from the 'inactive' setting?

Thanks.

Unable to scroll pass focused fields

This happened when I am previewing my form. The sequence of event follows:

1. After clicking into an object(buttons, textfields, dropdown list, etc...), the object is focused. For textfield i will a typing icon whereas a button I will see a dotted rectangle around it.

2. Without clicking out of focus and scroll down, the form will automatically jump back to the focused object.

I have been working on the forms for a month now, and it only happened yesterday. On the same computer, but on a different form, I do not have the same problem.

Is there any way I can disable it?

I need to cancel the signature and reset it so that the end-user can try to sign it again if the signer can not be verified. preSign is too early, but I can't seem to find a way to cancel the event in postSign. cancelAction only works in preSign.

Make changes to form after digitally signing

I have a form I created using Adobe LiveCycle ES4 for our field staff and they need the ability to make changes to the form fields after signing.   When I created the form and added the signature field, I unchecked the flag for locking fields after signing, but for some reason it will not allow changes to be made after it's been signed and saved.  Any suggestions?

Adding form values to SQL Database Table

$
0
0

Good Evening,

I am creating a local form in LiveCycle and I want users to be able to fill out the form and click a button, which will save the field values to a SQL Database table.

  • I am using LiveCycle Designer ES2 (version 9.0.0.2) to create the form.
  • The created form will be used locally (not web-based) on users desktops running Acrobat X Pro (version 10.0.0)
  • The Database is being hosted on SQL Server 2008
  • The Database connection information is:
    • Connection Properties:
      ConnectionProperties.png
    • OLEDB Connection:

               OLEDB Connection.png

      • Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=OperationsFX;Extended Properties="DSN=OperationsFX;UID=someuser;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Adobe LiveCycle Designer;WSID=WS01;DATABASE=OperationsFX;"

    • ADO Properties:

               ADOProperties.png

I have done the below so far:

1. Created the SQL Database, table and columns within it. I have one column which auto-increments as the record id set as a primary key.

2. Created a data connection within my LiveCycle form and binded the specific fields to it.

3. Created a button and within the "click" event, I have the below code:

xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.addNew();

So with the above done, I then fill in the fields and click the button. Results of what happen are below:

1. The values in my fields clear out.

2. The table within the SQL Database does not add the new record with what was inputted on the form.

So I was thinking maybe for whatever reason the data was never hitting the table. So I:

1. Created one record within the database table manually, inputting the necessary values.

2. Modified the form button within the "click" event with the below code:

xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.update();

When I opened the form the below happened:

1. My specific fields were populated with the values from the SQL Database table upon opening the form.

2. I modified the fields with different values.

3. I clicked the button with the code to "update" the record and noticed that:

     a. The new values in my form fields cleared out.

     b. The new values were saved to my SQL database table.

So I figure I must be doing something wrong with my code to add new records to the database table.

What I would like to accomplish is:

1. When user opens the form, the form is blank.

2. When user inputs all values in to the specific fields and clicks the button, that the values in the fields remain on the form and are not cleared out.

3. The values that the user inputted on the form are created in the SQL Database table.

Kindly advise how I can accomplish this.

K

dynamic drop down list -SQL server

Hi

I'm attempting to set up a PDF form with drop down fields referencing a SQL database. I'm having issues with LiveCycles "Data Drop Down List" connecting to my ODBC connector. The first value is shown in the field so I know my database connection is set up, however the drop down menu does not open.

I've found other resources online that describe Enabling "Show Dynamic Properties" and configuring the Data Binding. However the drop down list still does not open.

please advise me and share screenshot to done this.
