Need fields in LiveCycle form to expand and contract based on length of text

I was recently tasked with recreating a memo in LiveCycle.  There are a few field types in the memo that I'd like to be able to expand and contract based on the length of text in the field.  I have a date field and it is set long enough to fit December 31, 2016.  That's fine, but when I enter a shorter date like May 5, 2016 there is a chunk of white space between the date field and the field that follows it.  There are a couple of drop down fields that are like this too.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
